MULTI-WAVELENGTH AIRBORNE LASER SCANNING AND MULTISPECTRAL UAV-BORNE IMAGING. ABILITY TO DISTINGUISH SELECTED HYDROMORPHOLOGICAL INDICATORS

ABSTRACT

The Water Framework Directive obliges the member states of the European Union to monitor the state and ecological potential of water bodies. The assessment is based on physicochemical indicators, biological elements and hydromorphological conditions. As part of the hydromorphological conditions assessment, the following is taken into account: spatial layout of the watercourse, water depth, bottom substrate, as well as the presence, spatial and species structure of aquatic and riparian plant communities. Considering current technological conditions including the availability of low-cost unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), lightweight passive multispectral cameras, as well as multi-wavelength airborne laser scanning (MW-ALS). It is possible to identify some indicators of the hydromorphological state in a more objectified and representative way than traditional route observations. As part of the conducted tests, reference measurements of selected parameters were made: water depth, leaf area index (LAI), chlorophyll content (CC). MW-ALS acquisition have been prepared in coregistration with UAV flights. This paper presents the results of the regression and accuracy analysis of selected quantities used for the hydromorphological status assessment based on the remote sensing active and passive technologies.
