ASSESSMENT OF WATER QUALITY PARAMETERS IN RELATION WITH DEPLETION OF AQUATIC BIOTA IN SNAGOV LAKE, ROMANIA

ABSTRACT

The aim of the present study was to investigate the level of pollution of water collected from Snagov Lake. The water samples were collected during May 2017 from five sampling points (A, B, C, D, E) from three depths (surface layer, half of maximum depth, maximum depth). The subjected parameters were pH, electrical conductivity (EC), total hardness (TH), chemical oxygen demand (COD), nitrate nitrogen N-NO3-, nitrite nitrogen N-NO2-, ammonium nitrogen N-NH4+, phosphate phosphorus P-PO43- and some metals (Al, As, Ba, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Hg, Li, Mn, Mo, Ni, Pb, Se, Tl, Zn). Results indicated that pH, EC, TH, N-NO3-, N-NH4+, Ba, Li, Mn, Ni values are within limits imposed by Order 161/2006, could favor healthy fish growth and allow classification of water as first quality class for surface waters. On the basis of results related to COD and N-NO2-, the water corresponds to second quality class meanwhile high P-PO43- levels led to classification as fourth and fifth quality class for surface waters for A sampling point and B, C, D, E sampling points, respectively. The levels Al, As, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Hg, Mo, Pb, Se, Tl and Zn were below detection limit associated with ICP-MS means.
