THE CREDIBILITY OF THE EXTRAPOLATION OF RESOURCE PARAMETERS OF THE Cu-Ag DEPOSIT ON THE BASIS OF A 3D GEOCHEMICAL MODEL (THE LUBIN-GLOGOW COPPER DISTRICT, POLAND)

ABSTRACT

The paper presents the results of the analysis of the accuracy of estimates of copper resources in parts of a Cu-Ag deposit in the Lubin-Glogow Copper District (LGCD) (Poland) where samples were not collected (test areas). The estimation was based on the samples collected from excavations surrounding the areas scheduled for mining activities, while the evaluation of the accuracy of the estimates was based on data obtained during the exploitation. The estimates of resources in the examined area were based on a 3D spatial model of the deposit developed using separate ordinary kriging geostatistical procedures for the following main lithological series: carbonate, shale, and sandstone. The Cu contents determined in samples collected in mine workings formed the basis for the construction of the model. The results of the analysis carried out have shown that fully reliable estimation of Cu resources on the basis of extrapolated data from the surroundings of the examined areas, i.e. without geological data from the area scheduled for mining activities, is not reasonably possible. The resulting assessments of the accuracy of estimates were analyzed in order to identify the main sources of their errors and to define the role and importance of individual elements of the total estimation error. A sufficiently accurate estimation can only be achieved in strips of land adjacent to the area forming the basis of the extrapolation with a width 25-50m. In order to obtain satisfactory results of modeling and estimation of Cu resources, there is a need for additional data from sampling points located in parts of the deposit that are subjected to modeling and estimation.
