ABSTRACT
Sediments analyzed were taken from Żelazny Most tailing dam, the biggest in Europe.
Sediments were investigated by granulometric, mineralogical and chemical methods:
microprobe analyses, fluorescence and spectrometric method as weel. Granulometric
composition allowed us classify it as silty sands and sands. The carbonate and sulhate
grains, illite and kaolinite were identified. Haevy minerals appeared in quantity less then
10%. This fraction consists of chalcocite, chalkopiryte, marcasite, piryte, covellite and
digenite. Concentration of Cu, Zn, Pb, Ag, Co and Ni was indicated using EDS and microprobe analyses.
