ABSTRACT
Extremely fast and dynamic changes in space require efficient and appropriate recordkeeping
of these. Records of spatial data without a time component give insight into
data at a current moment and in their current condition in the field or records. By adding
the time component (4th dimension) to spatial data, an additional function of spatial
database is enabled. Spatial database becomes a spatio-temporal database and it is
possible to send queries to the base which result in a set of data at a certain time
moment. An appropriate data model enables sending two-direction temporal queries.
Temporal queries enable simple research of changes in space through time, depending
on wishes and needs. The availability and quality level of open-source software is an
excellent basis for developing a model of spatio-temporal databases.
Keywords: spatio-temporal database, time, temporal tables, temporal queries
