ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY IN RESIDENTIAL AREAS IN THE CITY GALATI, ROMANIA

ABSTRACT

The authors point out in this paper that current environmental changes (changes in
climatic parameters, air quality, method of land use, consumption patterns, increased
exposure to pollutants, etc.) had complicated the relation between residential and rural
external environmental adding costs to maintain an acceptable quality of life for
residents. The main factors that change the natural attributes of the environment in
Galati are: industrial activities (Steel mill, shipyard construction, food and beverage
industry, textile industry, chemical industry, oil processing etc., waste products that are
either thrown into the Danube or on the streets / parks / woods, etc., transport vehicles).
While everyone recognizes the fact that industrial activities are bad for human health
and even more to the natural environment, they are still consider it a necessary evil. The
methods used such as statistical analysis, comparative studies, historical method
allowed the authors to include evolutionary phenomenon. This paper is a systematic
investigation of the phenomenon from the main polluters. Impurities resulting from iron
and steel are made primarily of dust that occur in all phases of industrial processing: the
transport and storage of coal and ores, from their burning coke ovens, blast furnaces and
steelworks, the blowing air. May result in metal powders, compounds of fluorine,
arsenic, carcinogenic polycyclic condensed toxins. At the Integrated Steel factory in
Galati, the quantities of contaminants discharged into the atmosphere are extremely
important.
