RESEARCH OF RAINWATER UTILISATION IN THE NORTHERN MORAVIA REGION OF THE CZECH REPUBLIC

ABSTRACT

This article is a summary of previous research results focused on solution of rainwater
use in urban areas. The research was focused on monitoring of quality and also quantity
of caught rainwater. Based on rainwater quality monitoring the results were evaluated
and compared with valid legislation and some improvements of rainwater to quality
corresponding to drinking water were proposed. By the water treatment the aggression
of rainwater was first solved, which was evaluated on the basis of test according to
Heyer which consist in reaction of H2CO3 with CaCO3. The aggression was solved by
so-called stabilization. To reach the stabilisation three methods were tried: aeration,
water stabilization by passage through a column filled with calcium carbonate and
dolomite, and water stabilization with using of calcium hydroxide. The treatment was
finished by hygienisation: microfiltration, chlorination, UV radiation and ozonization
were tested. At the conclusion, from the observed data about usable rainwater a storage
reservoir capacity by the family house was proposed.
