GEOLOGICAL EXPLORATIONS AND THE CHARACHTERISTICS OF QUARTZ GRAVEL IN SLLOVI OF LIPJANIT, REPUBLIK KOSOVA

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is the geological exploration and structural analysis of the
quartz gravel in the surroundings of Sllovi village of Lipjan Municipality. Furthermore,
in this report are presented the reserves of this mineral as a raw material for different
practical uses. In fact, the study has to do with exploration of reserves and quality of
quartz gravel as a raw material for the mass production of quartz base blocks in “Xella
Kosova” factory in Lipjan. Based on the drilling results, quantities and qualitative
analyses of quartz gravel, it is considered that there are sufficient reserves for the long
term mass production of quartz base blocks in “Xella Kosova” factory in Lipjan. This
mineral substance has to be mixed with a coarser gravel in order to fulfill the optimum
conditions of silica gravel for the production of various blocks and bricks. In addition,
silica oxide presence in gravel at various locations does not differ substantially.
Therefore, this location contains considerable quantities of quality gravel for consistent
and long-term production of quartz base blocs in “Xella Kosova” in Lipjan.
