PRODUCED WATER INJECTION POTENTIAL FOR OIL RECOVERY FROM OIL SHALES IN THE KHOLMOV AREA

ABSTRACT
Produced water flooding allows to simplify conventional schemes of external water
supply and water injection into oil reservoir. As a result, the time of development of
water flooding decreases, necessary volumes of injection water are rapidly attained and
conditions for high rates of oil production are created. The Kholmov area water flood
analysis demonstrated considerable lags in highly productive shale and low productive
reservoir production. According to the analysis the existing technological scheme for
reservoir pressure maintenance was recognised as ineffective, and in some areas it led to
irreversible deterioration of reservoir properties of the formation and decline in
production rate. Waterflood experience in Kholmov area (Romashkino oil field,
Tatarstan, Russia) has proved the possibility of EOR by means of mineralized
produced water injection. Utilization of the technology has contributed to the solution of
problem of oil production from reservoirs with low permeability and deteriorated
reservoir chracteristics by means of developing stagnant zones and dead areas.
Keywords: oil reservoir, waterflood, water injection, shale, low productive reservoir.
