EXAMPLES OF STABILISATION OF COASTAL LANDSLIDES BY INNOVATIVE DEEP DRAINAGE SYSTEMS

ABSTRACT
Seashore, generally, especially cliffs, are very often affected by problems with
instability. Such problems often lead to endanger of existing properties, excavations or
structures under construction and to increase in expenses. The prime trigger for land
slipping is a high ground water level. The method of dewatering is important. Some
traditional drainage techniques are proven methods. However, two innovative deep
drainage systems, siphon drains and electropneumatic drains, could have certain
advantages. Two examples introducing the design and construction of siphon and
electropneumatic drains to control slope stability are described below.
