ABSTRACT

Mining and Metallurgy Institute in Bor, Serbia, has successfully dealt for many years
with processing of precious metals. Platinum and palladium have originated from the
raw materials of the Bor deposit. By further refining in the Institute, the mentioned
platinum metals are transformed into high-purity metals of which products for various
purposes are manufactured.
This paper presents the results of comparative analysis the high temperature strength of
platinum and palladium. The limit of tensile strength as well as the time strength at high
temperatures was tested. The time dependence on fracture and tensile strength on
temperature for platinum and palladium were determined. Also, the time to fracture and
the creep rate in the temperature range 1200-1400◦C at stress of 5MPa were
determined. The characteristics of fracture the palladium sample are given after high
temperature testing.
