ENVIRONMENTAL BENEFITS BY USE OF PASTE BACKFILL TECHNOLOGY FOR DISPOSAL OF SULFIDE-BEARING MINE TAILINGS

ABSTRACT
This paper focuses on the potential environmental benefits afforded by use of paste
backfill technology when tailings are sulfide-bearing and provides a case study chosen from
an underground mine in north-east Turkey in order to illustrate these benefits. Additionally, it
includes discussions on different slump values with varying cement contents under 28-day
uniaxial compressive strength tests for mine tailings and determines the rheological properties
of mine tailings with respect to paste production.
