ABSTRACT

Romania’s joining the European Union implies its convergence with the economic
European Space, both at a nominal and at a real space. The IMPACT programme
stimulates the development of living research development projects and innovation
through which directions of the Lisbon strategy of the European Union may contribute
to improve the process of convergence and reduce regional disparities by absorbing
structural funds devoted to research, technological development and innovation.

The Valahia University of Targoviste, as a part of the Romanian academic education is
on the path of complex modernization and European integration through a didactic
process, competitive scientific research and mobilities of the teaching staff and students
in the European space.

The implementation of the “Multidisciplinary Regional Center of Research-
Environmental geology Development” in the socio-economic area of the South
Muntenia is relevant for the strategic objectives of the priority axis II “The increase of
the economic competitivity through research, technical development and innovation”,
according to those imposed by POS-CCE (Sectorial Operation Programme for the
Increase of the Economic Competitivity). The setting up of such a center contributes to
the increase of the research capacity, having as consequence the level of economic
competitivity regionally and nationally, and also the possibility of cooperation between
similar research centers of the European Community. The development of the researchdevelopment-
innovation leads to a diversified offer of innovative services and along
with it, the implementation of methods and technologies meant to ensure higher quality
of products and services.
